Kit list
What is it about photographers and kit? Which bit do we use
and which bits sit in the bag? Here is a list of the (slightly)
more interesting bits of my kit:
Camera: Canon 5D full frame cmos but small and functional.
Yes, I'd like a couple of D1S mk2's but can't justify the cost
and would still keep the 5D as I would not like the bulk/professional
look in many situation.
lenses: Ranging from 14mm - 500mm some are good and some are
breathtaking. The interesting thing about lenses is the character
of each, they tend to give and take away. Another interesting
thing about lenses is that we get caught up in desire for an
F2.8 200mm or an F1 at 50mm, (Lica actually make one), thinking
that if we had these our life would be so much better... In
reality, some fantastic photos are taken with 'ok' lenses. Some
will write about the Canon 100-400mm L as 'soft' others will
use it as a work horse, never leaving it at home. Both are correct,
but the ones with it in the bag will get more photos. What I'm
getting round to is, don't become too besotted with technical
reviews of lenses. 'Focus' (sorry), on the work which comes
from them, and let that be your guide.
Tripod setup: Gitzo 1327 (I think) carbon with leveling head,
kirk ball head and wimberly sidekick for big lenses.
Benbo thing for odd situations (with small lenses), and low
level work like small plants etc.
Manfroto mono pod (not used very often)
Other bits of interest:
Angle Finder C
Dome wildlife photography hide + extra camo scrim (not used
very often)
Canon 550EX Speedlite Flash and a Metz CL45 1
Lumedyne battery packs (seem to be very good)
Studio:
Bowens gemini flash
Huge Manfrotto tripod in the studio, very old and very solid.
2x manfroto micro positioning plates (attach together to provide
horizontal and vertical movement by the mm). This is very useful
in the studio for macro work.
